Sorry Donald, the build file for the commons-dev project does not
properly package the tests with the distribution (just added a
"todo" note for that). In the interim, please follow Dirk's
suggestion, or else get the complete xml-commons cvs.

About your quest for a tutorial, i presume that you have seen
http://xml.apache.org/commons/components/resolver/resolver-article.html
http://xml.apache.org/commons/components/resolver/tips.html#resources
The latter leads to a few other projects that use Xerces which might
help you.
