Robert,
One of the things on my long "list of things to do" is to look at exactly what the federation is going to provide. I've been holding back while people concentrate on just moving to TLP (don't want to distract anyone :>).
What you suggest below seems sound to me. In fact I was seeing the whole site move that way - as a central repository for all things XML in ASF land. A kind of one-stop-shop, and also a place to bring out the linkages between the various XML pieces in the foundation.
Cheers, Berin

at the moment, the xml related ASF products are split between several different TLP's. soon they will be split between many different TLP's.
back in the depths of time, if you wanted to keep up with xml related developments at apache, you only used to need to keep an eye on the jakarta and xml web sites and subscribe to two announcement mailing lists.
now, you need to be pretty aware of what goes on where in apache if you want to subscribe to every list where announcements about xml related products may be posted. IMHO once the federation gets going, unless we take positive steps to provide simple, central sources of information which are easy for users and developers to find, it will become very difficult for anyone who isn't deeply involved in the xml side of apache to keep track of what's going on in xml-land.
so, i'd like to suggest that the federation considers changing the role of the xml announcements list so that it's clearly open to any apache community for the purpose of posting news (and in particular, product news) likely to be of interest to the xml community.
