Hello everyone,
Since it's been a little quite recently, I thought I might let you know
what's happening at Chalet Lamb in regards to the project. I've been
reading and researching database access layers to find the best way to
add similar functionality to our project. Right now, I can see two
different database types that we will need to access on a fairly regular
basis: the Genes native database, and GEDCOM files. Since a GEDCOM is
basically a different storage medium for a database, it only makes sense
to add translators to access them as databases rather than streams of
characters. I haven't started coding on this yet, mostly because I
don't want to do it wrong (which has also held up many of the projects
on the house as well...). Building the database layers this way will
also help ease the transition to adding import/export filters for other
types of databases.
I've also had the opportunity at work to create a date class for use in
the application that I work on there. I've incorporated the knowledge
into an updated GenDate class, but haven't uploaded it to CVS yet
because I'm in the middle of rebuilding our home LAN. Right now, I've
only got telnet access at home and no ssh (on my wife's box), but I hope
to have this update in CVS this weekend.
