Hi. I am looking for some advice. I am setting up a network with the
following:

A4000 + Ariadne II
A1200 + Mr Ethernet PCMCIA
A1200 + Mr Ethernet PCMCIA
Win98 PC + ISA Ethernet (NE2000)

I am going to use UTP cable with a hub, as this suits the layout of my
house best.

Basically, I want to do three things. Firstly, I want to have a
pop3/smtp mail server running on my Amiga 4000. Seccondly, I share files
with the other computers. Finally, I want to play networked games such
as Descent and Quake.

Now, the first and last problems are easy to solve, I can set them up
easily. It's sharing files that will be a problem. I want to have
constant access to one of the Amiga 1200s, so Envoy seems like a good
idea there. The real problem is the PC.

I have SAMBA but it looks quite complicated. I'm sure I could learn
about it and configure it, but I'd rather find a better way. I was
looking at NFS, but there seems to be a big lack of servers for the
Amiga. However, I think I'm right in thinking that if I use the Genesis
client I can see drives on the PC, and read/write/delete from them, so
this could be an answere.

So the question is, is SAMBA worth it for occasional use or would NFS be
a better option? Are there any reccomended programs to use with SAMBA or
NFS?

Thanks a lot,
Paul
