Hi all,

Firstly apologies if this comes through twice - I sent it and listar
(the Vapor mailing list bot) replied because it had 'help' in the
subject and it doesn't seem to have come through to the list.

I need some help using Genesis to connect to the Internet via a LAN and
Gateway. I have connected my Amiga 1200 to my flatmate Dave's PC via an
Accton EN2216 PCMCIA ethernet card (CNet compatible) over a BNC cable.
He is running net gateway software on his PC (Win98), and I am running
Genesis v1.0.6 here.

The problem is this: I can get everything to work fine using Miami
(Demo
version) but with almost identical settings in Genesis I can connect to
the LAN but not the internet. In Genesis I have set up a new interface
called Accton_EN2216 (this is my only interface). The following are my
settings:

_Interface_

IP Address (static): 192.168.0.2
Destination (dynamic) (I've also tried changing this to Dave's PC's IP
address
Gateway (static): 192.168.0.10 - this is Dave's PC's IP address
Netmask (specify) 255.255.255.0
MTU: 1500
Params: <none>

_Sana-II_

Specify Sana-II device: DEVS:Networks/cnet.device
unit: 0
Config file: ENV:Sana2/

_Modem_

- none - use no modem

_PPP_

no settings

_Services_

none ticked

_Events_

none

_Resolv_

Query host name and query domain name both ticked (I've also tried it
with neither ticked)

The only things I changed in _*Options*_ from the default are 'Flush
Global user on exit' is ticked and I pushed the Recieve buffer under
_Advanced_ up to 16384.

I have added the ip's of our computers to the Hosts section of the
_Database_ section

IP Addr: 192.168.0.10
Name: Dave`s_PC
Aliases: Dave`

IP Addr: 192.168.0.2
Name: Scone's_Amiga
Aliases: Scone

_*Socks*_

_General_

Enable Socks Wrapper is ticked
Server: 192.168.0.10 Port: 1080
Fake All Hosts: not ticked
Authentication: Specify User/Password (why is there no 'none' option???
- in Miami I use 'none')
User: Scone
Pass: <blank>
(Dave's socks server doesn't require authentication)

_Filters_

none

With these settings in Genesis I can connect to the LAN okay - I can
ping Dave and myself but for some reason he doesn't seem to be able to
ping me. If I try to use any internet program it just acts as if I'm
not connected at all. We did manage to get IRC working once when he ran
another program that acts specifically as an IRC gateway, but nothing
else worked.

With Miami (v3.0d), every Internet program works great - just as if I
had
connected via a modem. Here are my Miami settings:

_Interface_

type: SANA-II Ethernet
device: cnet.device unit: 0
IP Type: static
Address: 192.168.0.2
Netmask type: static
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway type: static
Gateway: 192.168.0.10

Multicasts <shadowed out>

For the SANA-II parameters I clicked on 'Query device' and it filled it
in for me.

Inactivity: Do nothing

_PPP_

All boxes ticked except 'Allow MS-CHAP' which is shadowed out

ACCM: a0000
Escape: <blank>

Quick Reconnect: disabled

_Dialer_

default settings - no dial scripts or phone numbers

_Database_

Added Dave's PC's IP and my Amiga's IP to the 'Hosts' section:

IP: 192.168.0.10
Name: Dave's_PC
Alias: Dave`

IP: 192.168.0.2
Name: Scone's_Amiga
Alias: Scone

_TCP/IP_

dynamic *not* ticked
Host name: 192.168.0.2

Real name: John Gillanders
User name: Scone

'Use ICMP' and 'Verify DNS servers' are the only boxes ticked/filled in
here

_Events_

unimportant - things like auto online ticked, hide gui on startup

_Modem_

default settings

_Logging_

default settings

_Windows_

all options shadowed out

_GUI_

Default settings

_Socks_

Enable Socks is ticked

Default Socks server: 192.168.0.10
port: 1080

Authentication: none

Thanks to those who take the time to read this. If anyone has any ideas
on what is wrong with my configuration, I'd love to hear them. I have
tried loads of different combinations of settings in Genesis and none
work. Grrr, I'm just getting sick of it.
