It appears that the files were corrupted during diownload, though the file I manually downloaded matching the sha1sum check value still didn't work. So no real confirmation.
I switched from DSL to LTE network to finish building qt5, and while I got it to build through the patching process, I still got a qt5 hash 'out of date' error. I then started from scratch and everything went through without a hitch. Thanks for the help.
