Hi Lisa,

We are unable to duplicate - using internal or external testers. However, our
Internet Explore test computer has updated software (service pack 3, not 2 as
you are using). We would be grateful if you could help us test a potential
solution with your own system. We want to check if this is related to a Java
update we did a few months ago. Should this be the root cause and your team is
limited to using Internet Explorer (instead of another browser, with updated
Java support), Internet Explorer would need to be updated to service pack 3 (it
has most current Java functionality) or the newer Java enhancements can be
bypassed by doing the following:

1) Remove the cookie(s) so that you can get into the Assembly Browser
2) Go to the assembly you are having problems with (http://genome.ucsc.edu/ ->
Genome Browser -> set the clade, genome, assembly)
3) From this same page, click into "configure tracks and display" using the
middle button, displayed at the bottom of this html page's top box section
labeled "<Common_name> (<Genius species>) Genome Browser Gateway", for example
"Human (Homo sapiens) Genome Browser Gateway"
4) De-select "Enable advanced javascript features" (the last option) in the
html page's top box section labeled "Configure image"
5) Adjust anything else you normally do (or none) and submit to enter the
Assembly Browser

Once you do this, try to back out, open again, and see if the problem is
resolved. You will need to do this for every assembly that you use (same for
the other users at your site). It is important to note that if a cart-reset is
done, the procedure above will need to be done again, since the default for
Advanced Java is on (checked).

Please give this a try and if you have time, let us know if the issue is
resolved. You can cc the genome list since other users would benefit from the
solution if/when they run into the same issue. This has come up before with a
slightly different configuration of browser/OS, but the symptoms you explained
so clearly seem to be similar.

Thank you. We look forward to your reply. If this does not work, we can follow
up with some more troubleshooting.
Jennifer
