We are not using "-lmysqlclient"
at this time, which is a shared library
(like a .dll on windows).
A shared library means that the code
in question gets loaded at runtime,
and is not directly part of your executable.
Instead, when you link to the .a file,
it is linking statically, i.e. a copy
of the compiled objects found in the .a
file are directly included in the final
executable. This is the method we use
with mysql.
There most certainly is a src/lib directory.
If you can't find that, you need to look again.
Do you have the kent source code?
Depending on where/how you got your source code,
you might find it in
${HOME}/kent/src/lib
Setting up a mirror takes a little while.
It also takes a lot of data.
It requires substantial storage.
Can you tell me what you are trying to do?
Perhaps you can just create some custom
tracks and load them into our public genome
browser, which should be a lot easier.
