To get gene information for a section of DNA (including the mitochondrial chromosome) use our Table Browser at http://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgTables. After selecting your organism and assembly of interest, select a Gene or Gene Prediction track such as UCSC Genes or RefSeq. For region, select the "position" button and type in "chrM". Finally, select your output format and file if desired and click "get output". For more information on how to use our Table Browser, go to http://genome.ucsc.edu/goldenPath/help/hgTablesHelp.html or http://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgTables#Help. I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact the mail list again if you require further assistance.
