Have you been able to connect in the past or is this your first attempt? If you first time, make sure that you working from a computer/server with the MySQL client libraries installed and added to your shell path. See the help here for the set-up details: http://genome.ucsc.edu/FAQ/FAQdownloads.html#download29 If this does not resolve your issue, please let us know after trying to connect one more time.
