Hi Ivan,
A great way to determine the table properties is to view the schema. For
example you can view the schema of the UCSC Genes in hg19 by clicking on the
UCSC Genes track link while in the browser. Click on "view schema". Then you
will need to click on each of the tables (hg19.kgProtAlias.kgID and
hg19.kgSpAlias.kgID) to view their schema's. To view what the table's purpose
is look at "Format description:"
Schema for kgSpAlias
Format description: Associates Known Gene ID with UniProt accession and gene or
protein alias
Schema for kgProtAlias
Format description: Link together a Known Gene ID and a protein alias
So the difference it is that kgSpAlias could have a gene or a protein alias
where as kgProtAlias can only have a protein alias.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact the mailing list if you have
further questions.

Hi,
Can someone please explain what's the difference between kgSpAlias and
kgProtAlias tables?
Thanks in advance!
