Hello Hanna, It looks to me like the NCBI entry for NM_009820 shows the size to be 1791 bp. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/viewer.fcgi?tool=portal&db=nuccore&term=NM_009820&query_key=1&dopt=gb&dispmax=20&page=1&qty=1
On the UCSC Genome Browser, there are a few different instances of this DNA aligning to the genome. You can read the details page for the UCSC Genes track to learn more about this phenomenon: http://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgTrackUi?c=chr17&g=knownGene One thing that may help you to become comfortable with the position of this gene is to take the DNA from the NCBI entry, and then BLAT it against mm9. Good luck in your research. If you have any further concerns about the Genome Browser, please do contact us again.
