It looks to me like the NCBI entry for NM_009820 shows the size to be 
1791 bp.

On the UCSC Genome Browser, there are a few different instances of this 
DNA aligning to the genome.  You can read the details page for the UCSC 
Genes track to learn more about this phenomenon:
http://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgTrackUi?c=chr17&g=knownGene

One thing that may help you to become comfortable with the position of 
this gene is to take the DNA from the NCBI entry, and then BLAT it 
against mm9.
