Hi Gary,

Information about our public MySQL database can be found here:
http://genome.ucsc.edu/FAQ/FAQdownloads#download29. Please be sure to observe
the use limitation guidelines outlined on that page. We recommend inserting
pauses in any program-driven script to avoid putting an excessive load on the
server. We limit program-driven use to one hit every 15 seconds and no more
than 5,000 hits per day.

Additionally, it is worth noting that our public MySQL server is not designed
to perform joins on multiple tables quickly and efficiently. Please keep this
in mind when writing scripts, especially since it is possible to write fairly
non-complicated joins that will still severely slow down our server.

I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact the mail list
again if you require further assistance.

Best,
Mary

Subject: [Genome] MySQL usage

I would like some guidance as to what would constitute "excessive or
heavy" use of the MySQL database. Thanks.
