I'm glad to hear that you find the Genome Browser useful!

We don't really have any tools in place that could automatically email 
you when new data is available for a particular gene.

If you are not subscribed to our Genome-announce mailing list, you might 
be interested in that:

We only send a few emails a month on this list, when we have a new 
assembly available, or when there is a new feature or highly-anticipated 
track available.

You might also want to look at new track releases, which are reported here:
http://genome.ucsc.edu/goldenPath/releaseLog.html
