Hi all, I'm using the ENCODE/GENCODE Version 7 database and I noted that the TranscriptID's (name column) are always in the form ENST00000456328.2, my question is what this number AFTER the dot means ? It is present in all the IDs and when I try to seach in ensembl it returns no matches, if I remove it and do the search with the part before the dot then I receive the correct match for the actual transcript, so it's not clear what is the real function of this.
