Hi Gordon,

Upon further research, we have found that you have discovered a bug that only
happens in some genome assemblies (including dm3). We will fix the problem in
the next GB release. When fixed, all the VCF requests will include the net.c
user agent.

The bug was causing our caching mechanism to be bypassed, so we are very glad
that you helped us find it. Thank you very much for your perspicacity and
persistence.

Subject: [Genome] request: add "useragent" value to VCF network code

Hello,

I have a small request regarding the VCF network code:
It seems the new VCF code doesn't set the "UserAgent" string when fetching a
VCF.GZ file from the 'bigDataUrl' server (which it does set with
BAM/BigBed/BigWig files).

Specifically, the VCF "HEAD" request does contain "genome.ucsc.edu/net.c" as
the user agent,
But the VCF "GET" request does not.

Not a major issue, but having the user agent helps when analyzing logs from the
webserver.

Thanks,
 -gordon
