There is a program in the kent source tree named: ave It can calculate statistics on arbitrarily large data sets. If you have a spreadsheet that can handle 3 billion+ data points, you can use that.
The units of any particular data file depend upon what the measurement is. Look at the description pages for any particular track in question to see what is being measured and what the measurements mean.
