I think this is just how you get it. By it's nature, OSX needs a lot of "porting" so to say, while FC4 prefix is just a matter of getting the stuff to be installed in the right place. In that sense (the just assuring everything is installed in the correct place) prefix sure is a general topic. However, with OSX aiming for having prefix as main-line solution (thereby obsoleting whatever there is now) I would like to see that reflected in the OSX product. "prefix" under OSX will not be about issues with whether files are installed in the correct place, but about compilation/linking issues and the like. Just like it is now.
