Sorry for the trouble from the bug.  Glad it worked out finally.

Actually, thank you for your insight.  There were at least one similar
bug report from the IRC but I didn't realize the root cause being
glibc-2.26 reading /etc/passwd.

You will have 3 years to go on the bleeding edge of glibc with this
machine.
