Well, there is more to it than just the WMs being available. For one
thing, when I started I didn't know what scale of effects to expect from
"USE= -qt -gnome" when installing KDE, etc, so the cleanest approach
seemed to be to keep them all apart.

Secondly, things like MUAs differ among the desktops and I wanted to
keep their data structures apart too. I've fallen on my face more than
once by having one set of mail files operated on by different versions
of the same client.

All in all, I thought the approach I've made was about the best for me.
Of course I wouldn't try to persaude anyone else that it's better than
theirs.
