I built the ebuilds for 7664 and they are almost identical to the ebuilds
used for the previous driver release. There are a couple of patches that
still need to be tested and possibly ported but overall, there shouldn't
be anything that would cause them not to work. As you suggested, feel
free to test the .run installer, but I'm guessing that something else is
going on here. Also be sure to rerun 'opengl-update nvidia'.

Nope... There is something fishy with the ebuild for them. I will try
using the .run package from the nvidia site and see what happens.
My system appart from one or two svn repository's I keep current (amarok
and kopete) is bog standard...
BTW xorg logs show Nothing... It get's to loading GLX extension...
Does.. doesn't log any areas, and dies... not too usefull for debugging
purposes.

I have nvidia-glx & nvidia-kernel both running at v. 7664. Ver 7174
seemed to like freezing my system. AS far as I can remember it was a
simple emerge followed by modules-update, modprbe -r nvidia modprobe
nvidia and opengl-update nvidia. Then restart the X enviroment.
Hope it helps.. Or at least turns the light at the end of the tunnel on.

The newest nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx ebuilds are borked on amd64, (at
least on my system).
I am using 2.6.11-gentoo-r7 #4 Thu Jun 2 12:19:31 NZST 2005 x86_64 AMD
Opteron(tm) Processor 248 AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
Card is FX5600, with xorg also from ebuild. Kernel AGPGART and VIAK8T800
Mobo.
7174 works fine, as do prior releases. Has anyone managed to get 7664
going at all?
Kernel is NOT SMP! Mobo is dualie but only single proc in.
Kind regards
