We have been having issues with xscreensaver on the netBSD machines at UNI lately aswell, some of the hacks open font's and never close them properly. Meaning that the number of X file descriptors opens maxes out. However the issue with the nvidia and current gentoo doesn't appear to be gentoo's fault but the nvidia module. I have e-mailed nvidia support and am awaiting responses. The forums at nvnews also have been discussing issues with the nvidia modules. It seems lockups occur during high activity. And don't normally leave anything in the logs but sometimes leave :NVRM Xid: errors in the logs. I suggest using a benchmark suite like Umark to generate these errors. I also think there is a program call nvcrash which is a test suite (it's not in portage). Kind regards Joel W -- [email protected] mailing list
