Sadly ntpd would not work in this case, as ntpd can only handle a skew of, IIRC, around 43 seconds per hour. I've just been through something similar with my mac mini, it would lose several minutes an hour. I used adjtimex to alter the TICK value slightly (from 10000 to 10030), so that ntpd could keep up.
