I was running on 2004.3 with KDE 3.3.3 with firefox working fine.

When I ran the 2004.3 -> 2005.0 upgrade script, it crashed quite early on, with
 - firefox not working, see below
 - autoload modules list trashed (no network, easily fixed)
 - XDM instead of KDM (still not working)
Anyway its the lack of firefox that's really bugging me, as gmail
isn't that hot in Konquerer.
I managed to upgrade to 2005.0 via the manual procedure.
<--
$ firefox
No running windows found
/usr/bin/firefox: line 515: /opt/firefox/firefox-bin: No such file or directory
firefox-bin exited with non-zero status (127)
-->
I expect the "No running windows found" I normally run firefox from K->Run.
The "No such file or directory" seems to be the problem.
I tried googling but this is a very common error message.
<--
$ ls -l /usr/bin/firefox
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 29 Dec 30 06:02 /usr/bin/firefox ->
/usr/libexec/mozilla-launcher
$ file /opt/firefox/firefox-bin
/opt/firefox/firefox-bin: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386,
version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.2.5, dynamically linked (uses shared
libs), stripped
-->
I immediately tried to sync & remerge the emul libraries and
mozilla-firefox-bin, and only baselibs changed.
I also tried removing the /usr/lib32 created by the upgrade, and
sym-linking /emul/linux/x86/usr/lib
instead, to no avail.

I believe I'm running
emul-linux-x86-baselibs-2.3
emul-linux-x86-gtklibs-2.2
emul-linux-x86-qtlibs-2.1.1
emul-linux-x86-xlibs-2.2.1

I used http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Install_firefox_with_java_on_amd64
to do the install.
Someone has added <Notice that those instructions are only interesting
if you want to install the Sun Java JRE, because emul-linux-x86-java
has been released, which also installs a Firefox plugin for the
Blackdown JRE if you emerge it with the USE flag "nsplugin"!>
I don't think it will help and its masked unstable.
