Actually, they never really sync'd well to anythng but Outlook, which I never used. But they do fine with things like rsync and ssh/scp, so it's not been a big deal to me. But they treat the usb port as a network port rather than a serial connection. And fwiw - I also use the ifp driver to manage my iRiver IFP-999 portable ogg player via usb. No lockup from it.
