This is not exactly what is needed. Basically the easiest thing is to unplug the device. Do a dmesg. Plug the device. Do a dmesg. The new lines are interesting. I think however that the others are right that you don't have the proper driver in your kernel. As you say that you have a driver available, make sure that this module is loaded / compiled into your kernel before pluggin in the device.
