Hmm...  I guess chroot files sort of fit the bill as "extra" files from
portage's viewpoint too, so while the two situations were somewhat
different, from portage's and the building gcc's perspective, they were
the same.  =8^)

Thanks for the update.  It's likely that the next person to suffer the
problem thanks you too.  =8^)
