10 second screen tutorial:

1.  emerge screen  :)
2.  screen
3.  emerge --update --newuse
4.  ^Ad  (that is ^A followed by "d")
5.  logout

Sometime later:
1.  log in (via ssh, console, etc)
2.  screen -r
(and now you're looking at the shell you were using in step 3)
