Yes; the X Windowing System was designed as both a display and a networking protocol. The X Server is where the video is displayed & where the input (keyboard, mouse) comes from; the X clients are the program(s) that are being displayed. Any or all of the X clients, including the Desktop Environment / Window Manager, can be run on the same host as the Server, or on remote hosts (as long as the remote hosts have permission to access the X Server). SSH also includes functionality to allow X11 forwarding through the encrypted SSH connection.
