To mask xorg 1.4 I tried  
 
echo "=x11-base/xorg-server-1.4-r1" >> /etc/portage/package.mask
And I received when I update

If I drop nvidia-drivers in favo of xf86.video.nv I loose DRI or render
capabilities ?
