[gentoo-amd64] Java in Firefox??

I'm sure this is a frequently *asked* question, but I haven't been able 
to find an *answer*. I have Gentoo ("~amd64") running on my Athlon64 X2. 
When I start up Firefox and try to use Java, it bounces me into an 
"install missing plugin" dialog box. I can click on the button, and it 
tells me that it can't install the plugin.

How do I get this to work? Do I need to install a 32-bit Firefox? That's 
what I've been able to find from Google on other distros.
