Well, thats what i had thought, but was put-off slightly by an earlier
message in the thread when Paul wrote:

I was wondering if after removing firefox i might need it later.

Finally, got a bit brave, changed make.conf and recompiled the packages.
The result is :

Build time: 25 minutes, and 42 seconds

* net-libs/xulrunner-1.8.1.18-r1
