I don't run esound but that looks very much like this bug, which has many 
dups 0.2.36 thru at least 0.2.38-r1.  The suggested fix is a remerge of 
sgml-common, or if you've not done a full update in awhile, try that 
(with --newuse --deep as well as --update).  There's also a patch to 
disable the documentation completely, but I'm not sure if it still 
applies nicely to 0.2.38 or not, as I believe it was for 0.2.36.

Note that other packages may be affected too (thus the lack of esound in 
the bug title), but esound seems to be the common one.
