FWIW, those weren't the scripts, but the xrandr commands the scripts ended up issuing. The scripts... would obviously be more code and less explanation. =:^) But, enough of the assumptions are (sort of) hard coded (they're in variables, but the values for the vars are hard-coded, but at least as vars, they're easier to change than if they were actually hard- coded at each use), that the scripts aren't really appropriate for wider use, at least not without some editing. But I could post them (well, it, it's a single script that takes a single command-line parameter) if desired.
