kerncache also had the unwanted side-effect that your sources will not end up in /usr/src/ unless you manually specify it in the packagelist in your stage4 specfile. If you forget to specify a kernel version you will end up with the latest stable kernel, instead of the one you specified in boot/kernel/gentoo/sources:
