Does anyone know of any packages in portage that a kid can work with

What age group are we talking about? What kind of music?
Conventional? MIDI? Weird electronic?
Kids are 5 and 7.
When I was five, I was subjected to piano lessons. I was way too young
for that, and never did learn to play the piano, but I did come away
with a knowledge of a fair amount of music theory. I later learned how
to play the flute, which is quite a bit easier than the piano. :)
In any event, if they're old enough to deal with a music keyboard, I'd
recommend some kind of an electronic keyboard instrument that has a MIDI
interface. I'm not sure you can buy one that *doesn't* have a MIDI
interface, :) And there is quite a bit of software that deals with MIDI.
Rosegarden is probably the best overall sequencer / MIDI package.
