Great, give up before you've even tried, and don't give us any information 
about were you stopped.

Anyway, I've off to install on my system and I'll report back on my 
success.  (Even though I've already done my taxes for this year and don't 
use gnucash.)

The first error I encountered was guile not passing it's own test suite.  
Skipping that phase of emerge (by turning off the relevant portage 
FEATURE) lets me continue...
