Well, for me it took around 7 minutes. But that has been fixed in 2.3.1, 
it's about 40 seconds now. I cannot tell exactly, because after my 
migration from 32 to 64 bit I have to import the MySQL database first, so 
maybe it would take longer here, too.

Try runing it as 'amaork -d' on the command line and check the debug 
output. In my case, Amarok was accessing all sound files being referenced 
in playlists, and I had lots of them.
