I don't agree, many large projects are written with PHP, I'm sure you can find many examples for it. LAMP skills are quite common (and I have to think about others maintaining the code after me if needed), and I'm sure LAMP is/will be installed on the servers -stats will be deployed on. Anyway, there's nothing you can do with one lang which can be done with the other for web devel (and PHP is designed for it). While python gives clear advantage in the client side (portage), there's no such advantage on the server side.
