In my opinion it takes too long until a new version of a packet is available 
in the stable portage tree. Current example: kopete (kopete.sourceforge.net)
0.7.4 is available since 11/18/2003, yet 0.7.3 is the latest marked stable.

What's the procedure applied to test a package for stability?

How can I help speed things up?
