Hello, Recently, I have been reciving alot of requests from clients of
mine, almost all of whom I have set up gentoo boxes all over thier
networks, and many who would like to install gentoo, but dont have te
confort level, or frankly the experience to deal with console, for some
sort of graphical tool to install and maintain gentoo. Similar to the
installer of freeBSD, once the installation is complete, the installer
would be left behind (say in /stand) and could be used for adding,
removing, and act as a gui tool for maintiance.

Due to the sheer number of requests that I've gotten, I've decided its
at least worth investigating. So, I thought this would be a good place
to start by getting thoughts from devs as to how it should be desgined,
how it should intergrate with portage, to what language it should be
written in.

Obviously, this isnt something that is really targetted at knowledgeable
users as much as it is targeted at newbie users and management types.

A GUI install with various options and defaults would allow gentoo to
take a redhat type look, (by having a graphical install & maintaince
program, thus allowing end users to almost completely avoid the console
since they can install X and KDM), however, I think while the concept
behind the "install wizard" and the "maintaince wizard" is not new, I'd
personally like to see it have its own distinctive look that is unique
to gentoo.

Suggestions? Comments? guidence?

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, then
you clearly don't understand the situation.
