Good Morning All, ~ I've been talking with Klieber and Cshields about the Gentoo booth at Linux World Expo next month in Boston. As a local inhabitant, I have volunteered to help handle local coordination for our booth. Part of this involves some preplanning and so I wanted to get this note out to everyone so that we can try and nail some logistics down.
1) I am able to act as a shipping address for booth materials and equipment. If you have things for the booth that you don't want to carry with you on the trip, let me know, and I can give you an address to ship to, and I will get it to the Convention Center for Monday Morning.
2) For people who don't know Boston, lodging rates are very expensive and parking is hard to find. I live in a suburb on the northern side of the city which has commuter rain access, and more reasonably priced motels that include parking. If people want, I can see about getting a block of a few rooms for people coming to the expo and we can take the train in as a group in the morning. Please let me know soon if you would like to try this, as it will require some advanced coordination.
3) According to klieber, we have a couple of pcs lined up for the booth. Is this enough? If we need more, I might be able to borrow one or two more from work, or scrounge one for use at the show. Do people think that we have enough systems? Also, does anyone have any thoughts about what sort of demos we might want to show?
4) Is there any interest in having a group dinner/event some evening after the booth closes. If people are interested, I can arrange a reservation at someplace in town, but I need estimates of how many people, how much people want to spend, and what kind of food/entertainment people would like.
That's it for now. Please pipe up if you have any issues or questions, preferably sooner than later. I'm taking the week of the show off from work to help with the booth so I will be there most of the time. If anyone has any questions about the Boston area, I'll try to answer those as well. I can also be found most days on freenode as JFMuggs so catch me there or email me. And don't worry, you WILL be hearing from me again 8)
