In a day to day normal use of the system I hardly noticed difference. But when you start shifting large files around the impact is noticeable. It also depends on the cryptoalg you choose.

I was running it on AMD XP 2500 with gig of ram. /boot was unencrypted, / with aes128, swap, /usr, /home with serpent256

keysize was 2048-bit

At that time (6 month ago) the system was running slack, then I moved to gentoo ;) will revert back to crypto when the time permits.
