When I upgraded Gaim today, I noticed that, as usual, it flashed a message on the screen saying to rebuild any packages that depended on it (such as gaim-encryption) otherwise they might not work properly. The problem is, I often set an emerge -uD world up and running and then leave it, because I don't want to sit looking at pages of gcc output - but this means I often miss these messages. Also, it seems a bit of a shame to have a package management system like portage only to have to go and re-emerge things manually.
Is it possible for the ebuilds like the one for Gaim to do this automatically instead? For example, Gaim knows that gaim-encryption should be re-merged, so why doesn't it scan portage, see if I've already got it installed and if so re-merge it?
