how about a mod to the 'emerge' command? My problem is that I run 'emerge -uDv world' in the morning on four machines (soon five), at the end, it lets me know how many config files changed. I would like to see more info in the summary. For example, I would like to know how many currently running processes (and which ones) just had an executable or a library changed out from under them. Also, if any files they have opened (fonts, etc) have changed. Special situations would also need to be handled, eg upgrades of the kernel, glibc, Xorg, etc. Can a reboot be avoided effectively when glibc changes? How? Just my 2cents.
