Changing the layout on the server suffices, no need to fiddle around with more scripts than necessary ;).

Listing the directory via proftpd takes the better of 10 minutes on "cold" caches and consumes around 1 minute of CPU time on an Athlon XP 2800+. With that figures in mind one easily could DoS a mirror-server if he wants.
