I've been working on getting together the tree-signing work, as a set of GLEPs, and as part of doing so, I've been digging into all of the archives I can find, and seeing just how many times the same good and bad ideas have been brought up. The earliest mention of Manifest signing is May 2002 so far, but the archives are missing earlier than mid-March 2002.
I'm hoping to get these GLEPs completed and onto the table soon, hopefully in time for the November council meeting, but there's still a lot of work to do. For those concerned, I AM going to address all past negative arguments, and I've broken the matter of signing down into a few separate parts, with separate implementation timelines. However, that's not the purpose of this email... While I'm at it, I've been noticing a lot of the new-developer notices never got their data fully added to userinfo.xml, and I've been trying to remedy that - I added ~100 joined dates thus far, however the archives (esp. for -core) that I have access to are not complete, and don't go back nearly as far as the depths of Gentoo history, so I'd like to appeal to everybody else out here, esp. former developers that might still be lurking.
