Apparently, it's enough to not export gethostbyname4() to fix this. I'll try building a glibc-2.9_p20081201-r1 plus this patch: http://pasky.or.cz/~pasky/dev/glibc/glibc-2.10-dns-no-gethostbyname4.diff If it works, I'll test drive it for a while and report back.
