I haven't looked at the code in detail, but the idea behind it seems reasonable. Given the complexity of the issue, I think that it needs to be approved as a GLEP before it's merged in mainline portage. The GLEP should thoroughly discuss a migration plan that makes the migration process as smooth as possible for our users and our ebuild developers alike. -- Thanks, Zac
