the fact that other distros are working based on their restrictions does not 
mean they enjoy it.  flat listing package names hits collisions in the $PN 
which $CATEGORY has for the most part made a non-issue whereas other distros 
arbitrarily mangle the name.  it also makes organization a lot cleaner.  i've 
used other distros and their flat lists and makes finding stuff harder 
(obviously 
imo).
